CNC – Open Source Furniture
Most of us have heard of open source software, one of the most common is Android used by millions on their mobile phones.
Did you know you can now also download open source furniture or design and build many cool contemporary furniture, signs or anything made from plywood or any kind of sheet materials to be manufactured locally using a computer and a CNC machine?
A CNC machine is basically like a 3D printer for sheet material. CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control. A computer converts any design produced by a computer using Computer Aided Design software (CAD), into numbers. The machine converts those numbers into movement of the cutter.
We are have built our own large CNC machine called a Maslow CNC, this machine based in Charlton Greenwich is able to turn your idea/design into individual components that can either be slotted together without any screws or nails or put together just like idea furniture. In fact its a bit like being a mini IKEA with the benefit of making furniture to your EXACT size, material and design requirements.
Not only is this great for the environment as you’re not having to ship your furniture around the world but its quick and affordable.
