Clients will often want some Landscaping work done and will send us an email saying things like
“We are looking to update our garden. Looking for a new patio and a little decking, what would you charge?”
Will all the pressures in modern life, It’s important to remember we are all busy people these days therefore in order to significantly increase the chance of making your Landscape project happen in the shortest time, at a fair price carried out by a competent landscaper
Most professional Landscapers will have a few jobs they are currently working on with an average of around 4-6 weeks availability at any point.
Providing quotes for any Landscaping job is time consuming for both parties. If you wish to be taken seriously as a potential client who is ready to get their project started and has got the funds available and ready to go, not having a brief of what you want will more than likely get you a brush off response.
If you wish to be taken seriously, you need to have the following:
A Plan/drawings of exactly what you want
This plan could at the least be some images/links to examples of some decking in a style you like along with the size of the works required and details of each part of what’s required.
We can create a detailed 2D or 3D design however this would be charged from £250 for the design/plan. You can view an example of our 2D and 3D work here
Most clients will create their own plan providing basic drawings with rough measurements, and details of the works required along with photos of the existing space WhatsApped to us.
A specification of materials
If you’re after decking, what materials is that going to be? Is it a soft wood (most common) or composite decking (much more expensive) but will last longer.
If you have not taken the time to consider the materials you are after, you are not ready for a quote (at least not from us). Simply Google to find the materials you are after that fall within your price range. There are also plenty of tools online that will help you to calculate the amount of materials you will require for your space. Don’t forget to add 10% extra for wastage when calculating your materials.
The other important factor to consider is that in this current market, availability of materials can be challenging. Even basic materials like cement are currently on ration from most builders merchants, however we can work around that but when looking at materials please do ask the supplier to confirm the availability of that material before considering it for your project.
Budget
This is an area many clients find tricky. If you don’t have any idea of your budget, it means you are at the early stages of your Landscaping project and it’s 50/50 if you will even do the work wanted. Contract that to a client who knows has a detailed plan of what they want, knows the materials and has a budget.
As a rough guideline, It’s often the case that the Labour cost is around a similar cost to the total materials used on a project. If you don’t have an idea of what the project will be, you should know how much you have set aside to get the work done by.
If you don’t provide a budget, it’s very difficult to know:
- If you’re a serious client or just considering some work.
- It’s not possible to advise on the materials you could consider for the project.
- If you have the funds in place to carry out the works you would like.
We provide many examples of costs on Landscaping costs to help you understand the average costs of most Landscaping projects. Click to view Landscaping costs in London.
